School Year Daily Schedule

7:00 – 8:45   The children enjoy puzzles, table top toys, computers and board games in the multipurpose room or construction toys (legos, construx), blocks and trains in the gym.  Before 8:00, they may have breakfast brought from home.

8:45 – 11:15   Class time.  The children are in the Montessori classrooms working with the materials on the shelves and working with their teachers in small "lesson" groups.  Demonstrations and other activities geared to help the children develop independence, order, concentration and coordination occur at this time as well.

11:15 - 11:45  Special classes introduce the children to a variety of skills.

11:45 – 12:15   Lunch.  We eat lunch in the multipurpose room.  Lunches are usually brought from home. Items requiring refrigeration or microwaving should be separated from the children’s lunch boxes by the parents so that the staff can have it ready for the children when they sit down to eat.  On Wednesdays, we have veggie or chicken nuggets with fruit and veggie. Fridays, we have cheese pizza, cheesy bread, a fruit and vegetable.  The children are served family style with extra food on the table for them to serve themselves. They may eat as much as they want. The cost for this lunch is $3. for one and $5. for both. School lunches are optional.

12:15 – 1:00   The children enjoy a relaxed play time.  We usually go outside to the playground, but during inclement weather, we divide into groups and play indoors in the multipurpose room or gym.  Our playground is used during all four seasons.  We have a sledding hill for winter fun; a water slide keeps us cool during the summer; slides, swings, bikes, a soccer field and a play structure provide plenty of options during the all the seasons.

1:00 – 1:15   Story time and prepare for nap/rest time.

1:15 – 2:00 or 2:30   Rest/Nap Time – Children that usually nap are given an opportunity to sleep until 2:45.  Children that do not usually nap listen to stories for a quarter hour and then listen to music for a half hour.  If they fall asleep, they may continue to sleep.

1:00 – 3:30   Classtime – Kindergartners begin their afternoon class at 1:00 and focus on more academic tasks before the younger children join at 2:15. The children may get up at 2:00, enjoy a snack and then join the class.  As the others awaken, they join the class in progress.

3:30 – 4:00 – Singing time or performance rehearsal.

4:00 – 4:30   The children enjoy an afternoon snack and have an opportunity to finish up what they may have left at lunch time.

4:30 – 5:30  The children separate in to groups to play either in the gym or multipurpose room. Near the end of the day, they may listen to a story or play a group game with a teacher.
